LIVE: Rain or Shine vs San Mig Coffee PBA Finals game 2

MANILA, Philippines – Game 1 of the PBA Philippine Cup Finals came down to a beautifully drawn and executed play. Will that be the case again in Game 2?
With 0.9 secs left, Rain or Shine's Gabe Norwood and Paul Lee read San Mig Coffee's defense perfectly and come up with a sneaky inbounds alley-oop lay-up play that sealed the win for the Elasto Painters.
Lee, who scored just 6 points but was named Player of the Game for his clutch basket admitted the team's timing was still off owing to their week-long rest after taking care of business against Petron in the semifinals.

NEWS: Michael Martinez advances in Sochi Olympics

MANILA, Philippines (2nd UPDATE) – Filipino ice skater Michael Martinez made Olympic history when he qualified for the medal round of the men's figure skating event at the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics in Russia on Thursday.
Martinez, the youngest among the 30 competitors in the event, garnered a component score of 31.50 and technical score of 33.31 for a total of 64.81 points in the short program, which is good enough to place him among the top 24 competitors.
The 17-year-old was visibly nervous as he was seen warming his hands and tapping his sides before his routine.
“Here is history in the making… very flexible skater, the first ever from the Philippines. He’s the first Filipino to have ever landed a triple axel in competition, very charismatic performer,” said the female commentator before Martinez began performing to the tune of Arthur Fielder’s Romeo and Juliet.
When the music began, however, he waved away any jitters and delivered an unforgettable performance.
He completed several triple axels, a triple loop, and the "Mr. Frick Move," which had himself leaning backwards to the ice.

"Well, that was fantastic, until the early on we've been treated to some wonderful performance. I said it was gonna be good. To be honest, I think it was gonna be quite this good," said the male commentator.
After his performance, he proudly showed his jacket which had the print "Philippines" on it.
The crowd in the 12,000-seater Iceberg Skating Palace was heard roaring and applauding for Martinez.
"There you go, I never heard that before," the commentator said after hearing the spectators cheering.
"Well done, you could be very proud of yourself," he added, addressing the Filipino.
Martinez will next compete in the free skate, which is the medal round, on Friday.

NEWS ALERT Star Magic answers Alfie Lorenzo's accusation that ABS-CBN is using Judy Ann for Claudine's comeback

"ABS-CBN believes that Ms. Claudine Barretto [left] made a name in showbiz and has a loyal following because of her popularity and hard work, and has no need of any help from Judy Ann Santos [right] or bitter old man posing as showbiz journalist," part of Star Magic's statement with regards to Alfie Lorenzo's (inset) claim that ABS-CBN is using his ward, Judy Ann, for the showbiz comeback of Claudine.
"This is in reference to the recent statements of Mr. Alfie Lorenzo in connection with Ms. Claudine Barretto. In last Sunday's, May 10, 2008, edition of StarTalk, Lorenzo made some comments regarding his artist, Judy Ann Santos, ABS-CBN, and dzMM.
"At one point, he said that Judy Ann was taken as an endorser of a shampoo brand to enhance the image of Ms. Claudine Barretto. Mr. Lorenzo insinuated that this supposedly helped in the showbiz comeback of Claudine. He went to say that without Judy Ann, Claudine would not have had a successful re-entry in showbiz.
"In clarification, Claudine and Judy Ann along with Ms. Gretchen Barretto, Ms. Ruffa Gutierrez we're signed as endorsers of a campaign coincided with Claudine's return to showbiz after giving birth. This is not part of any dirty tactics to use or exploit anyone.
"ABS-CBN believes that Ms. Claudine Barretto made a name in showbiz and has a loyal following because of her popularity and hard work, and has no need of any help from Judy Ann Santos or bitter old man posing as showbiz journalist. ABS-CBN has high regard for Claudine as with other artists."

She is currently enrolled at the University of the Philippines Open University taking up her Bachelor's Degree in Multimedia Studies. The 30-year-old actress got candid on the topic during a live interview on "Aquino and Abunda Tonight" on Wednesday.
She said there have been instances when it proved difficult to stick to her decision.
"Sobrang hirap, sobrang hirap panindigan. Honest lang talaga ako! Mahirap talaga panindigan. Hindi naman ako magsasabi ng napakabanal ko," she said.
Gonzaga shared that she never sleeps in the same room as Soriano during trips out of town, citing this as a way of "avoiding temptation," as advised by her mom.
"You do not put yourself in that kind of situation and temptation," she said.
"Nakakaloka 'yung mommy ko, pag nanonood kami (Soriano) ng sine, out of the blue, makakakuha kami ng text na, 'Please stay away from temptation.' Ano ba 'yung mommy ko? Loka-loka rin talaga si Mommy Pinty! So bago ka pa man din magbalak, soplak ka na kay Mommy Pinty!"
Asked if she is concerned that she and Soriano may not be sexually compatible once they get married, Gonzaga was quick with an answer.
"Ako kasi, ang paniniwala ko, atsaka kung paano rin ako pinalaki, I think that love should be greater than your lust for each other," she said.
"Naniniwala ako that love should be unconditional. Hindi porke alam mo ang isang tao, dapat ang kundisyon mo, 'Dapat sexually compatible tayo.' I think that love should be the strong foundation of the marriage, and I think that the trust and the commitment that you want to stay together in the marriage [weigh more]."
The "Starting Over Again" star, who had her first-ever love scene in the film that opened Wednesday, added she would be willing to "study" sex in order to improve on it, if needed.
"Ang bagay na 'yan, napagtatrabahuhan 'yan," she said, laughing. "May mga libro, may mga seminar! Naku, a-attend ako kung kinakailangan! Gagawin ko lahat 'yan!"
Noting there will eventually be challenges in a marriage, Gonzaga said, "At the end of it all, love really does conquer all. Iko-conquer lahat ng love 'yan. If your love is stronger than your lust for each other, there's nothing you can't surpass."

Tuason confirms getting P40M 'kickbacks' NEWS

MANILA - Former social secretary Ruby Tuason confirmed Thursday that she received P40 million in commissions from Janet Lim Napoles for acting as a "go-between" for the businesswoman and Senators Jinggoy Estrada and Juan Ponce Enrile.
In her testimony before the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee, Tuason said she was usually tipped off by the senators if there was a release of pork barrel funds that could be used for a project. She would then inform Napoles, specifically JLN Corporation employee Benhur Luy, about the available money.
Asked how much she earned for her work with Napoles, she said: "P40 million."
She also said she is willing to sell her house just to return the money to the government.
"It's a very small price to pay," she said.
Napoles is accused of masterminding the pork barrel scam, which saw billions of pesos in lawmakers' priority development assistance funds being funneled to ghost projects of fake Napoles NGOs.
More than P2 billion in pork barrel went to Napoles NGOs from 2007-2009, according to the Commission on Audit.
Napoles, Tuason, Enrile and Estrada are among several individuals facing charges before the Office of the Ombudsman for their connection to the scam. Enrile and Estrada have denied the allegations, claiming that Tuason only wanted to save herself from the charges.
Both senators, however, admitted that they know Tuason. A former social secretary in Malacañang, Tuason once arranged state dinners and prepared gifts for VIP guests of President Joseph Estrada.
Tuason said she even risked death when she stayed in Malacañang after Estrada stepped down from office after the EDSA Dos revolt in 2001.
Tuason said she first met Napoles after the latter expressed interest in buying her house in 2004. That meeting led to Mrs. Napoles asking Tuason for an introduction to her politician-friends particularly Senator Estrada.
Estrada initially rebuffed Napoles' offer to meet up but allegedly changed his mind when the businesswoman offered 40% in commission for every PDAF project that passed through her NGOs. Tuason said the same deal was allegedly struck with Senator Enrile through his chief of staff, Gigi Reyes.
Tuason said the operation of the scam was the same for both senators: she would first get a text message from either Estrada or Enrile's staff, informing her that they had PDAF that they could allocate for specific projects.
She said Estrada would text her directly; in Enrile's case, it was Reyes or the senator's deputy chief of staff.
Tuason would then call the JLN Corporation of Mrs. Napoles and tell them about the money. The Napoles employees would then correspond with the senator's staff about how to use the money.
Tuason would then get a commission once the project pushes through. "It doesn't go through me anymore because I have no personality. I don't know anybody in these implementing agencies. I don't know anybody in the [Department of Budget and Management]. My work is between their office and the office of the senator," she said.
The former social secretary said she had a change of heart while she was in the US after the pork barrel scam was exposed last year.
"There was a church I found [in US] that was open 24 hours, and I just found myself going there every day. Talagang iyak na lang ako ng iyak. Hiyang-hiya ako sa sarili ko. Hindi ako makapaniwala of what I did. I felt so guilty," she said.
"And then my grandchildren would always call me [via] Skype, and they would always ask me 'When are you coming home?'"
She added: "I don't want to die with millions of Filipinos hating me. I don't want to die with my grandchildren being ashamed of me. So I felt I have to do something. I have to correct my mistake. And I cannot possibly right a wrong with another wrong."

Daisy is a busy woman, working 4 days a week as a health care assistant and then working 3 evening a week as a singer in a Thai restaurant. It sounds draining to us, but not if you love it as Daisy clearly does. She’s been performing on stage and in competitions since she was in fourth class, when she sang Help by The Beatles on her father’s recommendation. She’s hoping to move up a level now and thinks she’s got the talent and ability to go far.
When she’s not performing she likes to unwind by hitting the gym, practicing yoga or getting out and about the see the sights. She also really interested in psychology and positive thinking and you’ll usually find her nose in a book or three on the subjects. She’s likes to think that she has a good soul and that she smiles and laughs a lot, but finds people who eat with their mouths open or drive with their full beams on all the time to be no laughing matter. See, she can’t even find stuff to get properly annoyed about, that’s how nice she is!

"NEVER SAY DIE" LOL

‘Hindi nila makukuha sa amin yan’: San Mig Coffee will win Game Seven, vows Marc Pingris

Hindi nila makukuha sa amin yan.”
That was the bold declaration made by San Mig Super Coffee Mixers star forward Marc Pingris, who believes his team will still win their PLDT Home DSL Philippine Cup semifinals series against Ginebra despite losing Game Six on Monday.
The Gin Kings forced a do-or-die game in the Manila Clasico series despite Pingris’ finest scoring game of the conference. The hardworking big man finished with 20 points along with six rebounds and five assists, dominating his matchup with Ginebra counterpart Japeth Aguilar.
“Sadyang kinapos lang,” said Pingris, who scored 16 points in the second half. He noted that the team was unable to pull out the stops during critical junctures in Game Six.
“Napabayaan namin yung depensa namin.”
Pingris said promised to duplicate his Herculean effort in Game Six for Wednesday.
“Ibinuhos ko na lahat kanina, lahat naman kami, pero talagang kinapos lang. Pero OK lang yun, babawi kami, kailangan lang naming pagtrabahuhan talaga,” he said.
“Game Seven, sa amin yan.”

The San Mig Super Coffee Mixers are no stranger to big games, something they will bank on when they face Barangay Ginebra San Miguel in Game Seven of the PLDT Home DSL Philippine Cup semifinals on Wednesday.
“Marami na ring kaming game na ganito. Pang-ilan na rin naming itong Game Seven, tapos galing pa kami sa Talk ‘N Text do or die game. Destiny naming sigurong mag-Game Seven talaga. Anyway, mas experienced naman kami sa kanila,” Mixers guard Mark Barroca told InterAksyon.com
“Mas marami kaming experience na do-or-die games kaysa sa kanila sa two years na pinagdaanan namin.”
San Mig Coffee gunner Peter June Simon echoed Barroca’s thoughts.
“Ang sabi nga ni Coach (Tim Cone) sa amin, we’re used to this situation,” he said. “It’s not about X’s and O’s. Kailangan lang kalimutan naming yung game last night kasi malaking tulong daw yun.”
The Mixers dropped a close 94-91 decision in Game Six, but they’ve moved past that defeat as they gear up for the final game of the series.
“We never discussed it,” said Cone. “It’s just something we’re not focused on this time. It was a tough game to swallow. It’s over and done with. It’s not something we can dwell on or worry about.”
According to Cone, there was no longer any need to motivate his team for the do-or-die contest.
“It’s Game Seven, it’s the easiest game to get ready for. It’s a natural motivation,” said Cone. “We know we’re going to have a big crowd and from a coaching standpoint, that’s the last thing you’ll have to worry about to get the players ready because we know they’re ready.”
Barroca, meanwhile, is looking forward to the atmosphere of the match.
“Nakita ko mas malaki na yung improvement namin. Gusto naming maglaro na may pressure. Sabi ko nga sa kanila, kapag may pressure tayo, lalo tayong gumagaling dahil nga nadadala tayo ng experience natin. Kapag hindi ka experienced player, magiging wild ka sa loob,” he said.

BUT SAN MIG COFFEE MIXERS SHOWED THAT THEY ARE BETTER THAN GINEBRA SAN MIGUEL

They may be rivals on the court when it comes to the PLDT Home DSL Philippine Cup semifinals series, but the bond between Gilas Pilipinas teammates Marc Pingris and Japeth Aguilar remains strong.

On Wednesday morning, hours before Game Seven of the Manila Clasico semis between Barangay Ginebra San Miguel and the San Mig Super Coffee Mixers, Pingris took to Instagram to wish Aguilar luck.

“Good luck sa atin mamaya bro!!!” wrote Pingris in a message to Aguilar, while posting the artwork created by TV5 artist Robbie Muyrong originally published on InterAksyon.com.

Pingris has dominated Aguilar in their matchup in the series, with the high-flying Ginebra forward posting pedestrian numbers in the semis after a dominant run earlier in the tournament.

The Mixers forward, on the other hand, has stepped up his game, scoring 20 points in Game Six to lead his team. Aguilar, however, had the last laugh in the matchup after Ginebra came through in the endgame to force Game Seven.
